ethdebug format

Debugging data format for smart contracts

Building a debugging standard

The ethdebug format group seeks to design a debugging data format suitable for smart contract languages.

We hope to make this format easy for compilers to output directly and for debuggers to read. To see it at work, try the interactive playgrounds.

Current status

The ethdebug format has preview releases on npm and is working toward 0.1.0. Compilers write it today: solc (experimental), Fe, Solar and bugc, our reference compiler. Debuggers such as Walnut's soldb read it. Next: describing what values mean, and support for local variables and optimized code in solc.

ethdebug is a project of the Argot Collective, a non-profit that maintains core Ethereum infrastructure, including Solidity and Fe. Argot is funded primarily by the Ethereum Foundation, with ongoing support from other contributors.
